Egypt’s Talaat Moustafa Unveils $27bn Mixed-Use City Near Cairo

Talaat Moustafa Group has announced plans to develop a new mixed-use city valued at EGP1.4 trillion, or about $27 billion, on the outskirts of Cairo. The project, named “The Spine,” will be delivered in partnership with the National Bank of Egypt and is set to become one of the country’s largest urban developments.

Spanning approximately 2.4 million square metres, the city will include residential, commercial, and hospitality assets. Plans feature 165 towers, retail centres, entertainment facilities, and green public spaces designed as an integrated urban environment. The project will operate as a Special Investment Zone connected to the company’s existing Madinaty development.

According to the developer, the investment is equivalent to roughly 1% of Egypt’s GDP and is expected to generate EGP818 billion in tax revenue over time. The project is also projected to create more than 55,000 direct jobs, reinforcing Egypt’s broader push for large-scale urban expansion and private-sector-led growth.
