The future of TikTok in the United States is moving toward resolution as President Donald Trump confirmed that Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch may join the investor consortium acquiring the app’s U.S. operations. Oracle founder Larry Ellison, Dell CEO Michael Dell, Andreessen Horowitz, and Silver Lake Management are also expected to participate, with Oracle leading security oversight.
The restructuring will spin TikTok off from Chinese parent ByteDance, which is expected to retain under 20 percent. U.S. representatives will control six of seven board seats, with the algorithm monitored domestically. Trump noted Chinese President Xi Jinping has approved the arrangement.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said an agreement is in principle, awaiting signatures in the coming days. If finalized, the deal secures majority American ownership of TikTok, easing national security concerns while preserving the app for its 170 million U.S. users.
