Nigeria Signs $1bn Solar Manufacturing Deal to Power Energy Transition

The Federal Government has launched a landmark renewable energy initiative with the establishment of a 1,000-megawatt solar photovoltaic panel factory in Nigeria. Structured through Solarge Nigeria Limited, a special-purpose vehicle jointly owned by Solarge BV (49%), InfraCorp (26%), and the Rural Electrification Agency (25%), the project is valued at roughly $1 billion and marks a major step under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund.

InfraCorp will mobilise investment, REA will drive policy leadership, and Solarge BV will deliver advanced technology. A guaranteed offtake commitment of 200MW of panels annually ensures financial stability while deepening Nigeria’s energy self-reliance.

The facility is expected to achieve 50% local content within three years, create thousands of jobs, and provide solar modules for schools, hospitals, and public facilities nationwide. Energy analysts project it could become Africa’s largest solar PV manufacturing hub, positioning Nigeria as a regional leader in renewable energy and industrialisation.
