T2, formerly known as 9mobile, has entered a multi-million-dollar partnership with Huawei to overhaul its core network infrastructure, marking a pivotal step in the telecom operator’s return to competitiveness. The agreement was announced during a formal signing in Lagos, as part of T2’s phased revival plan—Stabilisation, Modernisation, Transformation, and Growth. Years of operational setbacks had reduced the company’s customer base from over 23 million to under 3 million.
The deal will see Huawei modernise T2’s core systems, enhancing network capacity, security, and reliability. T2’s CEO, Obafemi Banigbe, described the collaboration as essential to future-proofing the network and reclaiming market relevance. Huawei executives reaffirmed their commitment to delivering world-class digital infrastructure to support Nigeria’s telecom evolution.
With recent subscriber growth and a fresh infrastructure-sharing agreement with MTN, T2 is positioning for long-term growth. The modernisation is expected to improve nationwide coverage and digital service quality in the coming months.
