Nigeria Secures $60 Million to Launch Abuja Digital Innovation Hub

The federal government of Nigeria has secured $40 million in funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to establish a digital innovation hub in Abuja, aimed at advancing the country’s position in the global digital economy. An additional $20 million will be contributed by the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, bringing the total investment to $60 million. The initiative will be led by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) under the direction of Malam Kashifu Inuwa.

The hub is part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to harness the Fourth Industrial Revolution, using digital innovation to drive growth in key sectors such as health, education, security, and agriculture. Inuwa highlighted the country’s ambition to use artificial intelligence to automate tax systems, potentially increasing GDP growth by 20% annually. With its young, tech-savvy population, Nigeria aims to generate $50 billion annually from global digital opportunities by producing up to two million skilled workers each year.
