After more than a decade of delays, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has officially resumed construction on Abuja’s Centenary City, marking a fresh start for one of Nigeria’s most ambitious urban renewal projects. Conceived in 2014 as a symbol of national progress, the city is planned as a multinational lifestyle hub featuring five-star hotels, luxury residences, a world-class convention centre, the Mall of Africa, and a championship golf course.
At the contract signing ceremony for Phase 1 of the primary infrastructure, Centenary City Managing Director, Dr. Odenigwe Ike Michaels, said Julius Berger was chosen for its proven track record of delivering landmark projects. He described the project as Abuja’s foremost urban renewal effort, designed to attract foreign investment and create a global destination.
Julius Berger’s Managing Director, Dr. Peer Lubasch, called the development “an investment in Abuja’s future,” noting that the first 4.3km international-standard dual carriageway will serve as the backbone of the city’s growth. With renewed government backing and private sector confidence, Centenary City is set to transform from a long-stalled vision into a thriving hub of jobs, business, and modern living.
