Airtel Nigeria to Build $120 Million Hyperscale Data Centre in Eko Atlantic City

Airtel Nigeria has unveiled plans to construct a carrier-neutral 38MW hyperscale data centre in Eko Atlantic City, Lagos, as part of its Nxtra network expansion. The facility will cater to growing demand for cloud and AI services, hosting over 3,000 racks across six floors with high power density of up to 25kW per rack. Designed for next-generation workloads, including GPU-powered infrastructure, the centre will feature energy-efficient systems targeting a PUE of less than 1.4, and multiple redundant power sources. Its location offers proximity to subsea cable landing stations and dense fibre routes.

The project, estimated at over US$120 million, will be fully funded by Airtel Nigeria and is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2026.

The facility will enhance Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, supporting AI, cloud computing, and enterprise services. It is expected to strengthen Lagos’ position as a regional technology hub, complement ongoing investments by MTN Nigeria and Open Access Data Centres, and drive business growth in Eko Atlantic City.
