The Nasarawa State Government says it will introduce tolling on the 65-kilometre Kwandere-Garaku Road once construction is complete, to ensure the road is properly maintained over time.
Commissioner for Works and Transportation, Mu’azu Gosho, made the disclosure during a briefing in Lafia. He explained that the road, which connects Lafia to Keffi, will cut travel time to Abuja by more than 30 kilometres and help ease traffic on the congested Lafia–Akwanga–Keffi route.
“This road will drastically reduce travel time from Lafia to Abuja and is expected to carry a lot of traffic, including heavy-duty trucks. So, tolling is necessary to keep it in good shape,” he said.
Gosho noted that the project, inherited from the previous administration, is being funded with over N9 billion refunded by the Federal Government after it took over the Lafia Cargo Airport.
He also said the government plans to open up more rural roads to improve access to markets for farmers and support economic activity in rural areas.
