Airtel Africa has slightly increased its investment in Nigeria, spending $39 million in the second quarter of 2025—up from $38 million in the same period last year. Though the increase is marginal, it signals Airtel’s ongoing commitment to its biggest and most important market.
The investment comes as Nigerian telecom subscribers are demanding better service, especially after the recent 50% tariff hike approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission. With $1 billion worth of new telecom equipment recently delivered to operators, expectations for network upgrades are high.
Airtel, which serves over 53 million customers in Nigeria, said the funds are being used to improve mobile and broadband infrastructure—especially in areas where coverage and capacity need strengthening.
Despite a slight dip in overall group spending this quarter, Airtel is sticking to its full-year investment target of up to $750 million. The company has also made progress in managing its debt, with 95% now held in local currencies to shield against exchange rate shocks that have affected several African economies, including Nigeria.
