ABUJA, July 30 — Dangote Petroleum Refinery has formally withdrawn its lawsuit challenging the federal government’s decision to issue fuel import licences to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and several private oil marketers.
In a notice filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja and signed by legal counsel Ogwu Onoja (SAN), the refinery said it was discontinuing the case, bringing an end to a legal battle that had stirred strong reactions across the energy sector. No reason was given for the sudden U-turn.
Dangote Refinery had asked the court to void the import permits, arguing that local production should be prioritised under the Petroleum Industry Act. The suit had sought ₦100 billion in damages and accused the regulators of undermining domestic refining.
Marketers and regulators pushed back, warning that limiting imports could create a monopoly and destabilise the fuel supply chain. The case had been set for hearing in September.
