Morocco Commits $850m to Transport Ahead of 2030 World Cup

Morocco is accelerating a major transformation of its transport infrastructure, with plans to deploy over 8 billion dirhams across 151 public contracts in 2026. The initiative, announced by Transport Minister Abdessamad Kayouh, is aimed at strengthening high-speed rail, expanding airport capacity, and improving logistics systems as the country prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup while supporting rising travel demand.

Significant progress is already underway. In 2025, contracts worth more than 36 billion dirhams were launched, including 17.2 billion dirhams for the Casablanca–Marrakech high-speed rail line. Rail usage surged to 55.6 million passengers, while freight volumes exceeded 23 million tonnes. Air travel also reached record levels, with 36 million passengers handled, prompting 12 new airport projects valued at 3.3 billion dirhams, including major upgrades at Mohammed V International Airport.

The logistics sector complements these investments with additional contracts to enhance freight movement. Together, these developments aim to position Morocco’s transport network to efficiently handle millions of visitors and sustain long-term economic growth.
