Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council approved six major infrastructure projects aimed at improving national connectivity and strengthening the road network. The Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the approvals after the council meeting presided over by Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa. Among the projects is the completion of the Suleja Minna Road, previously terminated due to poor performance. The remaining 71-kilometre dual carriageway will now be executed by China Geo-Engineering Corporation at a cost of N91 billion, with the road to be constructed using reinforced concrete to improve durability.
The council also approved N5.6 billion for the design of a new Carter Bridge after technical reviews concluded that the existing structure cannot be rehabilitated. In addition, the Kano Kongolam Road project across Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states was redesigned as a three-lane concrete carriageway with solar streetlights and CCTV infrastructure at an estimated cost of N334 billion.
Further approvals include the reconstruction of the Abuja Lokoja corridor and the Ibadan Ife Ilesa dual carriageway, alongside Phase Two of the Keffi Nasarawa Abaji Road rehabilitation. According to Umahi, the federal government plans to commission at least four completed infrastructure projects in each geopolitical zone by May 15.
