The African Export-Import Bank has expanded its engagement with the Caribbean Community, increasing its regional financing limit from 3 billion dollars to 5 billion dollars over the next three to four years. Speaking at the 50th Regular Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government in Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, Afreximbank President George Elombi said the bank aims to scale up support beyond the 750 million dollars already disbursed and a 2-billion-dollar pipeline under execution.
The expanded programme will fund healthcare, tourism, agro processing, infrastructure, and SME financing across Barbados, Guyana, Grenada, Jamaica, Suriname, and other member states. The bank also plans to promote sea and air connectivity, strengthen local content in resource rich countries, and extend its Creative Africa Nexus initiative to deepen cultural trade between Africa and the Caribbean.
Afreximbank reaffirmed support for a Caribbean Eximbank, the CARICOM Payment and Settlement System, and the upcoming ACTIF2026 forum in St. Kitts and Nevis, aimed at boosting Africa Caribbean trade and investment ties.
