The African Development Bank Group and Air Côte d’Ivoire have signed a Letter of Intent to explore strategic cooperation aimed at strengthening aviation financing, technical skills development, and sustainability initiatives across Africa. Signed in Abidjan on 23 January, the agreement reflects a shared commitment to position aviation as a driver of economic integration, trade, and mobility on the continent.
Under the LOI, both parties will assess opportunities to mobilize affordable aircraft financing for African airlines, expand technical training for pilots and mechanics, and explore the establishment of a West African aviation training center. The cooperation will also consider sustainability initiatives, including opportunities linked to Sustainable Aviation Fuel. These areas align with Agenda 2063, SAATM, AfCFTA, and the Bank’s Ten-Year Strategy.
The partnership supports the African Development Bank’s Integrated Aviation Transformation Program, which focuses on policy and skills, infrastructure and connectivity, and airline competitiveness. Stakeholders say early implementation could strengthen regional connectivity and aviation resilience.
