Mozambique Advances Coral Norte FLNG Project

Mozambique reached a major milestone in its natural gas industry with the launch of the hull of the Coral Norte FLNG floating unit in South Korea. The event marks a key step in the country’s second ultra-deepwater LNG project in the Rovuma Basin, following approval of the Coral Norte FLNG Development Plan in April 2025 and confirming progress in line with the project timetable.

Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Estevão Pale said the launch signals completion of the main floating infrastructure and the start of integrating gas production and processing modules. He noted that the development reflects government commitment to positioning Mozambique as a responsible producer and a reliable supplier to global energy markets, while strengthening confidence among international partners.

With a planned liquefaction capacity of 3.6 million tonnes per year, Coral Norte will lift Rovuma Basin output to about 7 million tonnes annually, making Mozambique Africa’s third-largest LNG producer. Operations are expected to begin in 2028, supporting revenues, jobs, and energy security.
