Eskom Reports Sustained Power Stability as Generation Performance Improves

South Africa has recorded more than 200 consecutive days without widespread power interruptions, underscoring improved system stability at Eskom. The utility confirmed 231 straight days without interrupted supply, with only 26 hours of load shedding recorded in April and May of the current financial year. Eskom said electricity demand continues to be met despite heavy rainfall in December 2025.

According to the utility, the Generation Recovery Plan, supported by intensive planned maintenance, has delivered measurable improvements across the fleet. The Energy Availability Factor rose to 69.14 percent in December 2025, a year-on-year increase of 12.57 percentage points. Year to date, EAF stands at 64.35 percent, with the fleet meeting or exceeding the 70 percent benchmark on 49 occasions.

Eskom attributed the gains largely to reduced unplanned outages, which fell sharply over the recent holiday period. Improved performance has lowered reliance on diesel generation and strengthened confidence in supply security, with additional capacity scheduled to come online ahead of peak demand.
