Lagos State will begin fully regulated bus operations on the Lekki–Epe corridor on December 8, with 229 high- and medium-capacity buses set for deployment in the first phase of the Lekki–Epe Bus Reform Scheme. The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) announced the rollout on Tuesday, confirming that the service will introduce exclusive, state-supervised bus operations along major routes such as Ajah–CMS/Marina, Ajah–Obalende, Ajah–Oshodi, Ajah–Berger, and Ajah–Iyana Ipaja.
Under the new system, one operator will run an express service, while others will provide stage-by-stage services to expand commuter reach. All buses will feature Lagos’ standard blue-and-white regulated colours, QR-enabled verification stickers, unique identification codes, and Touch and Pay (TAP) systems to ensure smooth transactions. LAMATA noted that extensive stakeholder engagements with informal operators have been concluded to support the transition.
The reform aims to enhance commuter safety, comfort, and discipline across the corridor, setting a new standard for reliability in the state’s public transport system. The first phase will later extend to Epe as part of Lagos’ broader transport modernization plan.
