The Federal Government says the first 47-kilometre stretch of the Lagos–Calabar coastal highway will open to traffic in December 2025. The Minister of Works, David Umahi, made this known during an inspection visit, noting that the segment is scheduled for opening between December 12 and 17. He confirmed that both government and the contractor are working to keep the project on track, with plans to complete Section 1 and part of Section 2 by April 2026.
Umahi also addressed recent controversies surrounding claims by Stella Okengwu of Winhomes Global Services. He stated that a recent court ruling struck out her suit for lack of merit, noting that court documents showed the company had already sold the land in question. The court held that Winhomes lacked the legal standing to challenge the project, exposing inconsistencies between the company’s public claims and its sworn affidavits.
With the December opening approaching, the project is seen as an important step toward improving mobility along Nigeria’s coastline, boosting regional connectivity, and advancing the government’s broader infrastructure goals.
