FG, Quaint Energy Sign Deal for 8MW Hydropower Projects in Oyo and Kogi States

The Federal Government has signed a concession agreement with Quaint Energy for the development of two hydropower projects totaling 8 megawatts (MW) in Oyo and Kogi States. The deal covers the 6MW Ikere Gorge Hydropower Project in Oyo and the 2MW Omi-Kampe Project in Kogi.

At the signing ceremony in Abuja, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu described the agreement as a milestone toward achieving sustainable and affordable electricity nationwide. He said the projects would attract private investment, unlock renewable energy potential, and support rural industrialization.

The hydropower plants are expected to boost local electricity supply, stimulate agricultural processing, and drive small-scale industrial growth. Adelabu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to private sector–led energy development through credible partnerships and transparent frameworks.

Quaint Energy Chairman, Femi Adeyanju, assured timely delivery, emphasizing the projects’ broad benefits for host communities and the Nigerian economy.
