hatGPT-maker OpenAI has signed a $38 billion, seven-year deal with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to expand access to advanced computing power, marking its latest major partnership following agreements with Oracle, Broadcom, AMD, and Nvidia.
Under the deal, OpenAI, partly owned by AWS rival Microsoft, will gain access to hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs and millions of CPUs to support large-scale deployment of “agentic AI.” CEO Sam Altman said the partnership will strengthen the compute ecosystem powering the next phase of AI innovation.
OpenAI will begin using AWS infrastructure immediately, with all capacity expected to be in use by 2026. The agreement adds to an estimated $1 trillion in infrastructure partnerships this year, including $300 billion with Oracle and the $500 billion Stargate project. It is the first major deal since OpenAI’s structural shift to a profit-oriented model.
