The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has signed a grant agreement with Swedfund, Sweden’s development finance institution, to strengthen the security, resilience, and reliability of Nigeria’s 5G network infrastructure. The collaboration underscores Nigeria’s commitment to advancing its digital transformation agenda while addressing emerging cybersecurity risks linked to next-generation networks.
Under the partnership, Swedfund will provide technical and financial support to the NCC in developing a risk-based cybersecurity framework for 5G deployment and future digital networks. The funding will enable capacity-building initiatives, feasibility studies, and system upgrades to ensure that Nigeria’s 5G architecture is secure, trusted, and compliant with international standards.
The initiative is expected to enhance network performance, data protection, and public confidence in Nigeria’s digital infrastructure. By improving 5G security, the collaboration will support critical sectors—including power, healthcare, transport, and education—and accelerate the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy. The project aligns with Nigeria’s broader goal of achieving a secure, inclusive, and globally competitive communications ecosystem.
