President Bola Tinubu has directed the expansion of ongoing power infrastructure projects under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), to be executed in three distinct phases aimed at achieving stable and affordable electricity nationwide.
Speaking during a meeting with a Siemens Energy delegation led by Dietmar Siersdorfer, Tinubu praised the company’s continued collaboration under the 2019 PPI framework and assured full political and financial backing to accelerate implementation.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, highlighted key milestones, including the Electricity Act 2023 and a new National Integrated Electricity Policy that has attracted $2.2 billion in investments and activated 15 state power markets.
Under Phase One, Batch One, substations in Abeokuta, Offa, Ayede-Ibadan, Sokoto, and Onitsha are underway, with two expected by December 2026. Siemens’ Siersdorfer confirmed progress and training initiatives to build local capacity and transform Nigeria into a regional power hub.
