The Federal Government has approved a $1 billion modernisation project for the Lagos ports and initiated the procurement process for similar upgrades across other Nigerian seaports. Announcing this at the 2025 Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria Conference in Lagos, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, represented by Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, said the reforms aim to create a paperless, technology-driven port system that boosts efficiency and curbs corruption.
The initiative seeks to enhance cargo handling, upgrade infrastructure, and expand port capacity to global standards. Oyetola added that similar modernisation efforts outside Lagos will promote balanced maritime development.
He further highlighted that under the Deep Blue Project, Nigeria has recorded zero piracy incidents in the last three years, underscoring the ministry’s focus on security and competitiveness in maritime trade.
