Nigeria Accelerates Gas Strategy with $22bn Infrastructure Push

Nigeria is advancing its gas development agenda following the establishment of the Decade of Gas Secretariat in 2023, which has streamlined implementation across key areas such as infrastructure expansion, pricing, and capacity development. The initiative has identified 16 priority gas projects requiring an estimated $22 billion in investment, aimed at improving connectivity between production centres and end users while supporting both domestic consumption and regional distribution.

The country’s gas output has risen from 6.8 billion cubic feet per day in 2023 to 7.5 billion cubic feet per day in 2025, reflecting improved coordination among government agencies, regulators, and private investors. Over 215 demand-driven initiatives are currently being tracked through a centralised monitoring system to ensure effective execution.

Key priorities include gas-to-power development and expanding Liquefied Petroleum Gas usage to enhance energy access and promote cleaner fuel adoption. Nigeria aims to increase LPG consumption from 1.8 million tonnes to 3 million tonnes by 2030, reinforcing its transition toward sustainable energy solutions.
