New Mexico and Wyoming Unveil Roadmap to Supply Low-Carbon Rocky Mountain Gas to U.S. and Asian Markets

Governors Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico and Mark Gordon of Wyoming have released the Rocky Mountain Gas Roadmap & Implementation Playbook, a first-of-its-kind plan to position responsibly produced natural gas from the Rockies as a cost-effective, low-carbon energy source for U.S. and Asian markets.

Launched during the Advanced Energy Roundtable in Santa Fe, the roadmap identifies two main routes; the Pacific Northwest Pathway and the Southwest Pathway, to connect Rocky Mountain gas to growing domestic markets and Asian demand, bypassing the Panama Canal.

Governor Lujan Grisham said the roadmap will “create jobs, strengthen international collaboration, and fuel the transition to clean energy.” Governor Gordon added that both states produce UN-certified low-carbon gas, attracting strong Japanese interest. Supported by WSTN, Guidehouse, and tribal partners, the roadmap highlights 277 trillion cubic feet of recoverable reserves and projected shipping-time cuts of 50 percent to Asia via the Southwest route.
