Meta is expanding its investment in Africa’s digital ecosystem by backing critical infrastructure, including data centers and subsea cables. During the launch of Digital Realty’s LKK2 data center in Lekki, Lagos, Meta’s Edge Strategy Manager, Ben Ryall, emphasized the role of reliable connectivity in driving financial inclusion, education, and innovation across the continent. LKK2 adds nearly 2MW of IT capacity and connects with LKK1, which hosts Nigeria’s landing point for the 2Africa cable.
The 2Africa subsea cable, a 45,000 km project co-financed by Meta and international partners, links 33 countries and aims to improve network resilience and internet access in Africa. With multiple landing points in Nigeria, the cable is expected to reduce connectivity costs, enhance redundancy, and support the continent’s growing online population.
Digital Realty’s latest facility integrates with its global ServiceFabric platform and other peering points in Lagos, offering businesses low-latency, high-capacity digital infrastructure. This is expected to unlock new growth in e-commerce, online services, and digital innovation across Nigeria.
