The Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday with Abu Dhabi Ports Group to jointly develop and operate the container terminal at Shuaiba Port under a concession agreement. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, the Minister of Public Works and Chairperson of the KPA Board of Directors.
The partnership aims to enhance Kuwait’s competitiveness in the global logistics market, contributing to the nation’s sustainable development goals. Dr. Al-Mashaan stressed that this collaboration would serve as the first step in a strategic alliance that would lead to tangible programs and projects benefiting both countries. The total non-oil trade between the two nations reached AED 38.8 billion ($10.6 billion) in the first nine months of the year, reflecting a 7.6% increase from the previous year.
The agreement is expected to foster foreign trade, supply chain revitalization, and increased investment. Abu Dhabi Ports Group will now begin the necessary technical, environmental, and financial studies in line with international standards, ensuring the successful development of the project.
