The Kano State Government has approved contracts worth over ₦40.8 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of 17 township roads across the metropolitan area. According to the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, the projects will cut across eight local government areas, including Gwale, Nasarawa, Kumbotso, Fagge, Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Dala, and Ungogo. He made the announcement during a tour of completed and ongoing road works with the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Alhassan Yahaya.
Among the projects are the Tudun-Yola-Gwarzo Road and Dansudau Bypass, awarded at ₦1.896 billion, the Jafar-Madobi Road and underpass at ₦1.323 billion, and rehabilitation of Sabo Bakin Zuwo and Muhammad Buhari Roads at ₦2.014 billion and ₦4.108 billion, respectively. Larger undertakings include the ₦5.956 billion Airport Road rehabilitation and erosion control work on the Kwanar Durba–Fammar-Kunau Kure Road, valued at ₦205.9 million. Waiya explained that these contracts are designed to improve connectivity, reduce congestion, and enhance commuting in one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing cities.
In addition to urban upgrades, the state is channeling ₦13.3 billion into the Rogo-Bari-Falgore-Mahangi road network and ₦6.9 billion for the Panda-Hamdullahi-Albasu-Salkwayan-Dutse axis. Both projects, located in Rogo and Albasu local governments, are seen as critical to stimulating commerce, easing transport of agricultural produce, and boosting social interaction. Once completed, the roads are expected to deliver smoother mobility, create economic opportunities, and raise the quality of life for Kano’s residents.
