Johor Launches $6 Billion Renewable Energy Corridor to Power Industry and Boost ASEAN Power Grid

The World Bank Group, through the International Finance Corporation, has partnered with Permodalan Darul Ta’zim and Ditrolic Energy to advance the Southern Johor Renewable Energy Corridor, a two-thousand-square-kilometer hybrid solar and battery storage zone designed to power Johor’s industrial expansion with clean electricity and support ASEAN’s cross-border power trade. The collaboration was formalized during the launch of the Johor Renewable Energy Policy 2030.

As part of the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone masterplan, the project’s first phase will deliver up to four gigawatts peak of solar capacity and more than five gigawatt hours of energy storage on a ten-thousand-acre site. The six-billion-dollar initiative will supply renewable energy to data-center operators, manufacturers, and other major industries while enabling clean electricity exports to Singapore under the ASEAN Power Grid initiative.

Leaders from PDT, Ditrolic Energy, and IFC described the project as a landmark in Johor’s clean-energy transition, projecting around one hundred twenty-five thousand jobs through construction and long-term operations.
