IsDB Board Approves $1.365bn to Expand Abidjan–Lagos Road, Spur Infrastructure in 12 Countries

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has approved a $1.365 billion package to support development across 12 member countries. The approved projects focus on key sectors, including renewable energy, transport infrastructure, water security, and health services, aimed at strengthening economic resilience and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Key projects include EUR306.89 million for Benin’s Godomey–Ouidah–Hillacondji Road Capacity Expansion and Upgrading Project, aiming to strengthen a strategic section of the Abidjan–Lagos corridor, EUR200 million for Côte d’Ivoire’s highway upgrade, and US$180.72 million for Bahrain’s King Faisal Highway improvement. In the energy sector, Uzbekistan will receive US$110 million for solar power projects, while Mauritania will benefit from EUR55.19 million for a cross-border electricity interconnection.

Additionally, IsDB has allocated funds for water stress and food security projects in Morocco, Sierra Leone, and Cameroon, alongside investments in health and education in Mauritania, Pakistan, and Tajikistan. These efforts reflect IsDB’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, social services, and community development.
