The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering safe, durable, and economically transformative road infrastructure with the ongoing construction of the 1,068-kilometre Sokoto–Badagry highway. The project incorporates modern safety features, including CCTV surveillance systems and street lighting, aimed at improving road security and protecting communities along the corridor, according to the Ministry of Works.
The super highway originates from Illela in Sokoto State at the Nigeria–Niger Republic border, passes through Kebbi, Niger, and Kwara States, and terminates in Badagry, Lagos State. Officials described it as one of Nigeria’s most economically significant infrastructure investments, designed to enhance the movement of people, goods, and services within Nigeria and across neighbouring countries such as Niger and Benin Republic.
Project managers confirmed that construction is progressing smoothly without major challenges, while the Presidency assured host communities of strong security presence to ensure uninterrupted and timely completion of the highway.
