Federal Ministry Terminates Ekim-Odukpani Contract Over Poor Performance

The Federal Ministry of Works has officially terminated the contract for the Ekim-Odukpani section of the Calabar-Itu Highway, awarded to Raycon Construction Company, due to the contractor’s poor performance. Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, made the announcement during a recent inspection, revealing that Raycon failed to meet the agreed terms, raising concerns over its capacity to complete the project.

The contract was initially awarded as part of a government intervention after the previous contractor, Julius Berger, was replaced due to excessively high pricing. Minister Umahi expressed disappointment in Raycon’s inability to deliver and emphasized that the termination was necessary to bring in a more capable contractor. He assured that a stop-work order would be issued, and work progress would be assessed before a new contractor is appointed.

Hitech Construction Company will be deployed to carry out palliative work on the deteriorating highway. The Federal Government remains committed to completing the road project, with plans for swift action within the next two months to alleviate commuters’ years of suffering.
