Bangladesh Secures USD 550m PPP Deal for New Laldia Container Terminal

Bangladesh has taken a major step to expand its maritime and trade capacity with a new concession agreement for the Laldia Container Terminal in Chattogram. The project, valued at over USD 550 million, stands among the largest PPP investments in the country’s history.

The Chittagong Port Authority signed the deal with APM Terminals, a subsidiary of A.P. Moller-Maersk, and QNS Container Services Ltd. Under a 30-year concession, extendable based on performance targets, the investors will fully design, finance, build, and operate the terminal. This marks Bangladesh’s first fully privately developed and operated port facility of its scale.

The greenfield terminal is expected to boost export competitiveness, improve logistics efficiency, attract new shipping traffic, and create skilled jobs. APM Terminals says the project will support manufacturers, importers, and exporters while strengthening long-term economic growth.
