Australia Commits Over $34 Million to New Research Infrastructure Projects

The Australian Research Council (ARC) has announced more than $34 million in funding to support over 25 new projects under the Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (LIEF) scheme. The program is designed to expand Australia’s research capacity by enabling universities and industry partners to access shared, state-of-the-art infrastructure, specialised equipment and large-scale research facilities.

ARC Chief Executive Officer Professor Ute Roessner said the scheme plays a critical role in strengthening national research productivity. She noted that by pooling resources across institutions, the LIEF program makes it possible to deliver major research assets that no single organisation could finance alone, while also deepening international collaboration.

According to Professor Roessner, the newly funded projects will advance research in areas of national interest, including sustainable manufacturing, quantum technology and next-generation diagnostic systems. She emphasised that these investments will help sustain Australia’s leadership in collaborative, world-class research.
