Aradel Secures Control of Renaissance Energy Consortium

Aradel Holdings has emerged as the dominant shareholder in Renaissance Africa Energy Consortium after acquiring an additional 40 percent stake in ND Western for $250 million. The transaction lifts Aradel’s ownership in ND Western to 81.67 percent and raises its total economic interest in Renaissance to 53.3 percent, giving it effective control over assets formerly held by Shell in Nigeria’s onshore and shallow-water portfolio.

The deal marks one of the most significant ownership shifts in Nigeria’s post-IOC divestment era. Through its strengthened position in ND Western, a key operator with a 45 percent working interest in OML 34, Aradel is now anchored at the operational core of Renaissance. This confers influence over production strategy, capital allocation, and future development of assets with estimated reserves of 458 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Financed fully with debt, the acquisition reflects growing lender confidence in indigenous operators. Supported by improving cash flows and rising production, Aradel is positioning itself as a long-term upstream player, while also diversifying through stakes in assets such as the Agbami deepwater field.
