The African Development Bank (AfDB) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Africa’s development by supporting a new artificial intelligence (AI) training initiative aimed at strengthening the monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of the Second Ten-Year Plan (2024–2033) of Agenda 2063. The Bank, through its Joint Secretariat Support Office, provided technical and financial assistance for the fifth annual training workshop, held in Lusaka, Zambia, and jointly organised by the African Union Commission and the African Capacity Building Foundation. The workshop brought together representatives from AU member states to build technical capacity in leveraging AI and digital tools for data analysis, evidence-based policymaking, and tracking progress towards Agenda 2063 goals.
The AfDB’s support covers both the technical expertise and financial resources required to deliver the training, which included hands-on sessions with emerging AI platforms such as Ailyse, Google AI Studio, Google Gemini, ChatGPT, and Perplexity.
The initiative is expected to enhance institutional capacity across Africa, improve the quality of development data, foster targeted policy interventions, and strengthen peer learning among AU member states—accelerating progress towards Africa’s transformation agenda.
