The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has confirmed that the Agence Française de Développement is finalising a new financing round for the Maryland Interchange initiative. The update followed an inspection visit by an AFD delegation assessing ongoing mobility projects and reviewing the proposed interchange site. LAMATA stated that the funding will support the next phase of Lagos’ transport development programme.
During the visit, AFD’s Deputy Country Director, Mahamadou Diarra, expressed confidence in LAMATA’s progress on current projects and noted that arrangements for the new financing package were advancing. He emphasised that the engagement focused not only on project implementation but also on shaping the funding required for the Maryland Interchange component.
According to LAMATA, the interchange will strengthen the city’s transport network by supporting existing Quality Bus Corridor initiatives and improving passenger connectivity. The Maryland site is already in advanced discussions within the broader financing framework, reinforcing the longstanding partnership between Lagos and AFD under the state’s long-term mobility plan.
