Jigawa Launches N1.2 Billion Hybrid Mini-Grid to Power Kafin Hausa

The Jigawa State Government has commissioned a N1.2 billion solar-hybrid mini-grid project in Kafin Hausa, aimed at improving energy access and reducing reliance on diesel generators. Developed by Future Energies Africa (FEA) and its renewable arm, Bagaja Renewables, in partnership with the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), the project includes a 500kWp solar plant, a 350MVA diesel backup, and a 3.5km distribution network to serve 10 key transformers in the area.

Governor Umar Namadi hailed the project as a milestone in the state’s clean energy drive and lauded FEA and KEDCO’s technical partnership. He emphasized the role of affordable energy in boosting job creation and industrialization. Representatives from FEA described the mini-grid as a benchmark for hybrid electrification in underserved urban centres, reaffirming plans for more renewable energy investments across northern Nigeria.

This initiative aligns with Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan, which targets 30% renewable generation by 2030.
