Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a major commitment to Nigeria’s domestic fuel security, pledging to supply 1.5 billion litres of petrol per month starting in December 2025. The volume will rise to 1.7 billion litres monthly from February 2026, according to a letter sent to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority by CEO David Bird. To boost transparency, the refinery has asked the regulator to station officials onsite from December 1 to verify and publish daily production and stock data.
The refinery also urged NMDPRA to ensure the smooth clearance of crude, feedstocks and blending components, noting that persistent vessel delays have raised operational costs and affected product availability. Dangote emphasised that unhindered access to inputs is critical to sustaining stable supply and supporting the federal government’s drive for domestic energy security.
This renewed commitment signals a major shift in Nigeria’s downstream landscape. With domestic supply historically unable to meet demand, the refinery’s planned output represents a significant contribution to reducing import dependence. The initiative aligns with the government’s Nigeria First policy, which prioritises local refining capacity and aims to deliver consistent, affordable petrol for consumers nationwide.
